Halloween Ends
Saga I Horror/Thriller

Classic horror villain Michael Myers is back again in the last installment of the Halloween franchise alongside actress Jamie Lee Curtis to finish out the gruesome saga. The storyline looks to take place four years after the previous movie, Halloween Kills, where Laurie Strode is living with her granddaughter, coming to terms with her life events and writing her memoir. After a local boy is accused of killing a child he was babysitting, Laurie is forced to confront her fears and finish things (IMDB.com).
Universal Studios will be releasing Halloween Ends in theaters starting October 14th.

Are you a fan of religious and supernatural horror like The Nun? Do you like movies based on true events? Then look no further that Lionsgate's Prey for the Devil.
Prey for the Devil, which is based on real exorcism cases and accounts, follows the story of Sister Ann, who joins an exorcism school to follow her calling to help people. While nuns are forbidden to join these schools, professor Father Quinn agrees to train her seeing her potential. Sister Ann realizes through her training that she her dark ties of her past may get her closer than she realizes to the Devil himself.
This feature will be available in theaters starting October 28th, just in time for Halloweekend!
Mr Harrigan's Phone
Book Adaptation I Horror/Drama

Hold onto your seats, because in this day in age, we aren't communicating with spirits through Ouija Boards anymore-- we contact them like normal people, with an iPhone.
In this adaptation of a Steven King novel titled If It Bleeds in association with the infamous Blumhouse Productions, we follow the story of a young boy named Craig, who has befriended the local billionaire, Mr. Harrigan. The two bond over books and an iPhone (according to IMDB's website). When Mr. Harrigan passes away, Craig places the phone he purchased for Mr. Harrigan in his suit pocket. After an encounter with bullying at school, Craig decides to give his deceased friend a call for comfort, not expecting to get a call back. He finds out he's able to contact Mr. Harrigan through the phone as his calls and text messages are read and REPLIED to.
I'm extremely intrigued after watching the trailer and reading about the film, as I'm not sure how the film will end, but I'm excited to find out! You can watch Mr Harrigan's Phone on Netflix starting October 5th.
Hellraiser
Reboot I Supernatural Horror

Pinhead. Photo sourced from James White's article on Empire.com.
We have a reboot coming to Hulu on October 7th. 2022's Hellraiser, follows the story of a woman, struggling with addiction, who finds a mysterious puzzle box. As we can see in the trailer, this puzzle box aims to slice the solver and draw blood, resulting in a calling to supernatural beings known as Cenobites. This round, it looks like we're getting Jamie Clayton's version of "Pinhead", the name given to the Cenobite leader by fans in the original 1987 film.
While I've never seen the original film, I'm sure fans of Hellraiser will enjoy the newest version.
The Visitor
Mystery I Horror

A shot from The Visitor. Photo sourced from Jeannette Catsoulis's article on The New York Times.
Blumhouse is at it again with another film, paired up with Epix and Paramount Movies to give you The Visitor. Queue the classic small town and the "move into a brand new home with the wife" trope, we get an interesting twist. For Robert, our protagonist, it seems like everyone in this new little town knows him. It doesn't help when he finds reminisce of what appears to be his doppelgänger through photos, paintings, and human interactions with the townsfolk.
This looks to be more of a mystery than anything else, but knowing Blumhouse is apart of this film makes me wonder otherwise. You can check our The Visitor on October 7th via digital platforms.
Grimcutty
Internet-Based I Horror

Photo posted on Know Your Meme's website.
Does anyone else remember CreepyPastas? Those internet horror stories that circled the internet-- where we got names like Slender Man, Jeff the Killer, and Ben Drowned? That's what Grimcutty has taken inspiration of in order to create, well, the character and storyline of Grimcutty.
This movie follows the story of yet another small town where a malicious internet meme is circling the community, rumored to be the reason for kids to be harming themselves and others, turning to violent emotions. When the real Grimcutty monster appears at our protagonist's door, and her parents don't believe in what she tells them, she has to find a way to get rid of the creature one way or another.
While I love internet scary stories and Creepypasta-inspired things, this trailer seemed to disappoint me personally. It just doesn't seem too spooky for my taste, but who knows-- it might be the next best thing! Grimcutty comes to Hulu on October 10th.
Spirit Halloween
Fantasy I Spooky

Photo sourced from IMDB's website.
The store, Spirit Halloween, has been a staple of Halloween for years now. It's the hot topic space that fills up abandoned mall stores and random buildings each year with their costumes, props, and yard decorations. The minute you see someone go out of business, you can guarantee that there's a good chance their building will be turned into one of these stores. So, since it's so popular, why not make a movie out of it?
Spirit Halloween follows the story of three friends who decide to stay inside a Spirit Halloween store overnight, thinking they are too old for Halloween and that tricks and scares are below them. Things change when suddenly they are locked inside and the monster animatronics and beings come to life, looking to chase them down, run by the spirit of Alex Windsor.
I think this will be a fun movie for all ages, but not too scary like some of the other movies on this list.
V/H/S/99
Found Footage I Horror

A clip from the movie. Photo sourced from Dennis Harvey's review on Variety's website.
Found footage has always been a popular genre of horror, from Paranormal Activity to The Blair Witch Project. Now, we're getting V/H/S/99 as a Shudder original!
The trailer for this movie is a bit vague, but we do know this movie it to show things that happened before smartphones and before social media-- where we had VHS tapes. We get a multitude of stories, from what it looks like, in the trailer, from dark rituals to people welding weapons, coming towards the videographer violently. All set in 1999, we see the dark things people have "captured" on VHS.
This film will be released on October 20th on Shudder.
Run Sweetheart Run
Teen Thriller I Horror

Photo of Cherie, fighting for her life. Photo sourced from Eventbrite.
First dates can be crazy, but not as crazy as this one. Run Sweetheart Run, yet ANOTHER Blumhouse Productions film, follows the story of Cherie, a young business woman, who gets set up with wealthy businessman Ethan. While the dates goes well to start, it takes a drastic turn when Ethan physically marks Cherie with a knife and explains that he will hunt her down for sport. If she survives the night, she can live, but if he catches her, it's game over.
What's neat about this movie and it's trailer is that it looks like Cherie will get some aid from previous survivors of Ethan's twister game. I'm pretty excited for this film, which you can watch on Prime Video on October 28th (close to Halloween!).
The Lair
Alien I BioHorror

Charlotte Kirk as Sinclair in The Lair. Photo sourced from IMDB.
Last but not least, we have an alien horror film. The Lair, according to IMDB, is about a Royal Airforce pilot who is shot down in Afghanistan. When she takes shelter in a bunker for the time being, she finds these alien humanoid experiments who are out for blood. When she finally gets back to others to warn them of the beings, they go to investigate further in the deadly bunker.
This trailer looked very interesting, especially with the glimpses we see of the alien itself-- it's big claws look like they pack quite the punch. You can watch The Lair on October 28th via Digital.
So, that's what any horror fans can look forward to watching in the month of October! Let us know if we skipped over any that you are particularly excited about.
